Armenia will officially receive the European Union's visa liberalization action plan "in the coming days,

" Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan told parliament

on Monday, marking what appears to be the most concrete progress yet toward visa-free travel between Armenia and the EU.

Sargsyan said the document will outline the specific steps the Armenian government must take to meet EU standards.

"These measures have already been identified by the government as key reform priorities,

," she said, citing

ongoing modernization of the migration and citizenship systems, including the rollout of biometric passports and ID cards.

Under the plan, Armenia is expected to begin producing new biometric documents in the second half of 2026, after construction and technical upgrades to passport and registration offices are completed.

"The transition must be smooth and queues manageable," Sargsyan noted, adding that the ministry has finalized agreements with private partners and approved the design of the biometric ID cards.

The announcement follows EU Ambassador Vassilis Maragos's statement that Brussels would soon present a visa liberalization roadmap to Yerevan. In an interview with CivilNet in August, Maragos described the move as

"a significant step forward" in Armenia-EU relations and urged better communication amid rising disinformation about the EU's role in Armenia.

Once implemented, the visa-free regime would allow short-term travel across the Schengen Area without visas for Armenian nationals, a long-standing goal since the signing of the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) 2017.
