YEREVAN — Arusyak Manavazyan, head of the ruling Civil Contract faction in Armenia’s National Assembly, has accused opposition figures of amplifying statements by Azerbaijani officials and using them to generate public anxiety.

In a Facebook post, Manavazyan said some opposition figures were once again demonstrating what she described as their “political bankruptcy” by circulating statements made by Azerbaijan’s foreign minister and building fear-based narratives around them.

“Representatives of Azerbaijan say from the UN podium what serves their propaganda interests, which is nothing new. Meanwhile, our opposition rushes to independently ‘decode’ and interpret their vague formulations, turning them into a subject of domestic debate and attempting to impose new anxieties on the Armenian public,” Manavazyan wrote.

She questioned whether such conduct represented responsible state-minded politics or political opportunism directed against the state.

According to Manavazyan, Armenia’s government consistently and clearly articulates the country’s national interests and territorial integrity on international platforms. She argued that the opposition “does not see” Armenia’s official position because it finds it more advantageous to listen only to Baku’s statements and use them to spread further anxiety and despair.

“The real Armenia is a sovereign and developing state with delimited and legally protected borders, while the opposition’s proposed ‘agenda’ consists of permanent fear, a victim mentality and endless interpretation of statements made by others,” she wrote.

“In contrast to the opposition, our task is to work quietly, consistently and responsibly for a sovereign and peaceful Armenia,” Manavazyan concluded.
